I love this example of using video while visiting a historical landmark to tell a family history story.
Note how Andrew St.Pierre White uses an intriguing “hook” at the beginning to entice the viewer. Then, while telling the story of his ancestor, he uses multiple cutaway shots to provide interest and atmosphere. Fundamentals of music, straightforward narrative, and simple cuts with varied shots (close-up, wide shots, different angles) make this a well-crafted, short Ancestor Video. Mr. White is an experienced professional, but we can all use his techniques to create our own compelling Ancestor Story Videos. The genealogy part of the video is only two minutes long — in the rest Mr. White goes on to share information about his website that features videos about 4×4 vehicles like Land Rovers and Land Cruisers that he tests out all over the world.
