Question: How can I get teens involved in family history?
Answer: The Great Thanksgiving Listen!
StoryCorps.org started the Great Listen to involve teens with interviewing their elders during the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Great Thanksgiving Listen is “a national movement that empowers young people—and people of all ages—to create an oral history of the contemporary United States by recording an interview with an elder using the free StoryCorps App.”
And, yes, there’s an app for that.
But, you don’t have to be a teen to use it!
The StoryCorps app suggests wonderful questions and tips for interviewing family members or friends. It helps you create a list of questions and then displays the questions during your interview. The app also lets you export and share the recorded audio interview with multiple places like Dropbox, iMovie, your computer and more.
Also, you may share the recorded interview with the StoryCorps Archive (and the Library of Congress) if you wish. You can even take or upload a photo to go with your interview. What a great way to collect stories and ideas for Ancestor Story Videos! Creating a video is another good way to get teens involved in family history.
Question 2: How can you get even more help creating Ancestor Story Videos?
